In 1827 he graduated from Kiev's spiritual academy
He made up the first etymological dictionary in the history of native lexicography "Rootword of Russian language, in comparison to all the most important Slav dialect stand twenty four foreign languages" (p/1-2, 1842). He studied old Russian manuscripts and other monuments of Russian, belarussian and ukranian languages and literatures which resulted from his works "View on Russian manuscripts in philological attitudes' (edited under pseudonym Phedr Kastzesha), "Description of monuments, which are situated in the library of Kieux's academy (both of 1830). Schymkevich's inheritance of manuscripts includes vocabularies of belarussian, Ukraninan, Serbian-Harvat, Opperlyzhtskiy, the Gothic, Deutsch grammar" and so on.
