Philip attained Bachelor of Science degree, graduating from the University of California in Davis in 1978. In 1987 he received Doctor of Philosophy degree from Columbia University.
In 1978 Philip started to serve in the United States Artillery, where he stayed till 1982. Anderson also served in Germany, where he became a captain.
During the period from 1983 to 1986 Philip served as an assistant to the president at the International House in New York. In 1987 he was appointed an assistant professor of organizational behavior at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, a post he held till 1993, when Anderson started to work as an associate professor of management at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire.
Since 1984 to 1986 Philip served as a systems consultant at Data Tree, Inc.
In 1990, Philip was appointed a member of world advisory council at International House, a position he held during the next four years.
Philip married Rhonda Bernstein on May 29, 1988. The couple gave birth to their son — Spencer.
