Nabholz studied at the Christian Brothers University from 1964 to 1968. He received a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Georgia in 1978.
Nabholz worked as a senior biologist and ecologist with the Environmental Protection Agency in Washington and held it for 29 years. Also he served in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970. He was a communicant at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Lake Ridge.
