Philip Museve Kutima

Background

Kutima was born on November 24, 1956 in Kakamega, Kenya; the son of Philip Lutatwa and Lyaka Kutima.

Education

Kutima received a Master of Science degree from Kansas State University. In 1982, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry from Carthage College. In 1987, Philip was given a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the North Carolina State University.

Career

Kutima began his career as a lecturer of the dairy food science department at Egerton University in 1987. Three years later he took a position of a senior lecturer at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and held it until 2005. Also Philip served as a chairman of the department of food science and technology at the same university from 1992 to 1995. In 2005, he became an associate professor at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. Since 2009 Kutima has been a deputy executive director at African Institute for Capacity Development.

• Kutima was given Biotechnology Award, Germany Academy Exchange Service Award and Kenya Dairy Board Award.

Membership

Kutima is a member of Kenya Society of Biochemistry, Kenya Society of Microbiology and American Society for Microbiology.

• Reading, soccer, rugby, hockey, gardening.
