Prabhakar S. Naidu was born on August 23, 1937, in Khundu, India. He is the son of Y. Satyanarayan and Shantamma Naidu.
Naidu graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1962. He then also obtained his doctorate from the University of British Columbia in 1965.
Naidu devoted his career to teaching at Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, India. Firstly, he worked as an assistant professor from 1971 to 1976, then as an associate professor from 1977 to 1982, and in 1983, became a professor, the position he held till his retirement in 2000.
Since 2000, Naidy is professor emeritus at the university and a freelance writer.
