Nedelchev was born in Ezerche, Bulgaria, on April 1, 1938. His mother was a weaver and father a woodcarver.
Around 1959 Radi Nedelchev spent some time studying at a new state art school in Rousse. After some schooling, he and his friend abandoned their studies.
Since the 1950s Nedelchev has lived and worked in Rousse, Bulgaria. He is defined as an indisputable naive painter, who mainly works in the field of composition and portraiture. Since 1965 he has taken part in OCHI and also exhibited abroad, including such cities as Geneva, Munich, Paris, Prague, Tokyo, Zagreb, Moscow, Athens, Montreal, Washington, among others. Nedelchev has had a number of solo exhibitions in many Bulgarian galleries as well as in numerous museums around the world, for instance, in Switzerland, Berlin, Budapest, Paris.
In 1963 Nedelchev traveled extensively throughout rural Bulgaria, drawing and painting and at the same time trying to establish contact with other artists while traveling. In 1966 Nedelchev began to exhibit regularly. In 1968 he moved to Razgrad where Nedelchev formed a local union of artists. Nedelchev's recognition came in 1971.
Radi Nedelchev has become a prominent artist of the 20th century, whose works are highly acclaimed even today. He has received many Bulgarian awards. He holds The Order of Cyril and Methodius 1st class - the highest prize for art and culture in Bulgaria.
Nedelchev's works are owned by the National Art Gallery, Sofia City Art Gallery, other large galleries in the country and numerous private collections abroad.
