Rem Lucas Koolhaas Edit Profile

also known as Remment Lucas Koolhaas

architect , educator

As a thinker, author, and architect, the Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas has had a great impact on contemporary architecture. Even before he attracted international attention with his buildings, he was giving food for thought to his colleagues with his books and other writings.

During the first years there were only a few building commissions, but these created a sensation: the Netherlands Dance Theater in The Hague (1987) and the Kunsthal in Rotterdam (1992). Unexpected spatial programs, crooked levels, new forms, suspended gravity—all the limits of the conventional were crossed Finally, the concrete house in Bordeaux (1998) which, with a workspace that also serves as a lift, was designed for a wheelchair user, brought him international success.
