Rikuhei Umemoto was born in 1897. He was the son of Sensho, the 2nd director of the Umemoto school of dancing.
Umemoto learned Japanese dancing from his father. He went to Germany (1931) and studied dancing under Rudolf von Raban and learned ballet in England.
After returning to Japan, Rikuhei Umemoto became an instructor of the Takarazuka Onera Troupe and became known for his work in the operetta "From Spring to Autumn." Later moved to the Shochiku Opera Troupe.
