Since 1976 Adam has been working as a director at Robert Adam Architects in Winchester, England. In 1979 he joined the Winchester firm of Evans Roberts and Partners (now Winchester Design) as a partner. This busy firm with a very broad range of work has enabled him to put his ideas into practice in a large number of projects from small-scale domestic and commercial work to more significant commissions. In 1992 Adam obtained a position of the chair of Faculty of Fine Arts at British School at Rome.
In 1993 Robert was a contributor to books, including Building Classical, Academy Editions, and Companion to Contemporary Architectural Thought.
Now Robert is working on "Origins of Gothic": research on the speculative housing market and on Gothic architecture and twelfth-century culture. Also, he lectures widely in the UK and abroad and has undertaken lecture tours of the USA, Russia, China, Iran, and Brazil.
In 2000, Adam founded the International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture & Urbanism, which supports traditional architects through its 27 national chapters located around the world. His firm, now known as ADAM Architecture, has offices in both London and Winchester and is led by six equal directors, including Adam. It also leads projects in urban design and master planning under its sister branch, ADAM Urbanism.
