Robert Bieder graduated from University of New Mexico with Bachelor of Arts degree in 1965, from Indiana University, Bloomington, with Master of Arts in 1965 and from University of Minnesota,Twin Cities,receiving his Doctor of Philosophy in 1972.
Mr. Beider served as an assistant professor of history at Grinnell College, Grinnell, IA, 1972-1973. From 1973 to 1974 he held the post of an assistant director of Center for the History of the American Indian at Newberry Library, then acted as an associate director, 1974-1975. Mr. Beider was an assistant professor of Native American studies at University of Illinois at Chicago Circle, Chicago, during 1977-1980.
He was appointed senior Fulbright lecturer in ethnology and American studies at University of Mainz, Mainz, Germany, in 1980-1981. He also worked at Indiana University, Bloomington, as a visiting assistant professor, summers, in 1982-1983 and 1985, visiting associate professor of history, 1985-1987, associate professor in Malaysian Program, 1987, associate professor of history, since 1995.
Robert Beider served as a senior Fulbright lecturer in history at Free University of Berlin, Berlin, Germany, from 1988 till 1989. He worked as a Soros Foundation Professor of American Civilization at L. Kossuth University, Debrecen, Hungary, in 1991 and 1992, senior Fulbright lecturer in history between 1992 and 1994. Then he acted as an expert witness for U.S. Departments of Justice and the Interior, Sault Ste, Marie Ojibwas, and Native American Rights Fund.
