Robert D'Alessandro earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, in 1965 and a Master of Fine Arts in Photography from Brooklyn College in 1971.
A freelance photographer since 1968, Robert D'Alessandro has also held a number of teaching positions: assistant professor of photography, Brooklyn College (1974); photographer- in-residence, University of New Mexico, Albuquerque (1973); adjunct instructor in basic photography and art, Brooklyn College (1970-1972); associate adjunct professor in graduate photography, New York University School of Education, New York City (1972); and instructor in advanced and basic photography, New School for Social Research, New York City (1970-1972).
