Roman Romanenko was born in Shchyolkovo, near Moscow.
In 1986 - graduated from the 8th grade of the secondary school. Named bu V.M. Komarov in Zvezdniy town, Moscow Region.
Since August 29, 1992 he was working as a laboratory engineer (information processing). On November 20, 1992 he became assistant commander of the ship.
On July 28, 1997 - by decision of the оf SIMC he was recommended to be enrolled in the cosmonaut detachment of “Gagarin Research & Test Cosmonaut Training Center" (12th set). On December 26, 1997 by Order of RF Ministry of Defense he was enlisted as a test cosmonaut candidate of the “Gagarin Research & Test Cosmonaut Training Center.” On December 22, 1999 – he was qualified as a test cosmonaut.
From April 2002 to January 2003 he was trained as a backup crew of ISS-9 as a flight engineer of the ISS and commander of the “Soyuz’’TMA TPK for launching to OK "Shuttle".
From February 2003 to February 2005 was trained as a part of the backup crew of ISS-11 for launching on Shuttle OK as a flight engineer of the ISS. From September 2005 to January 2006 he was trained as part of the international group for flights to the ISS. From February 2006 to April 7, 2007, was trained as an ISS-15 backup crew member as ISS commander and Soyuz TMA commander. From January 2012 he was trained as a backup crew of ISS-32/33 as commander of the spacecraft and ISS flight engineer.
