Ronald Wegen

Background

Ronald Wegen was born on September 22, 1946 in New Jersey, United States. His parents, who owned a bakery, always encouraged Ronald to become an artist.

Education

Ronald Wegen received from Pratt Institute his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1968.

Career

After graduating from New York City’s Pratt Institute, Ronald Wegen worked as an interior architect, jewelry and fabric designer for companies including Givenchy and Anne Klein.

Besides, he also worked as a sculptor and exhibited his artworks, including paintings, drawings, and collages, in Bogota, Columbia. His work took him around the world; he lived in New York, London, Rome, Amsterdam, Bogota, and Rio, and traveled to Germany, Spain, Morocco, and the Caribbean.

Ronald Wegen was also an author and illustrator of children’s books. Prior to his death in 1985, Wegen wrote and illustrated eight children’s books and provided the illustrations for two others.

Achievements

• Ronald Wegen was best known for authoring such books as "Sand Castle", "Sky Dragon", and "Balloon Trip". Besides, he was the recipient of such awards as American Library Association Honor book for "Where Can the Animals Go?" and New Jersey Authors Award for "The Halloween Costume Party".
