Roy Raymond Robson was born on June 19, 1963, in Erie, Pennsylvania, United States. He was a son of Joe Brooks Robson and Anita Evanoff Robson.
Robson received Bachelor of Arts degree from the Allegheny College in 1985. He had graduate studies at the Pennsylvania State University for a year from 1985. In 1987 he obtained Master of Arts degree from the University of Pittsburgh. In 1992, Robson became Doctor of Philosophy at the Boston College.
Robson started his career at Boston College, working as an adjunct assistant professor of history from 1992 till 1994. From that same year, he served at the Fayetteville State University at the position of an assistant professor of history, he stayed there for 3 years. From 1997, Robson worked at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia as an assistant professor of humanities. He was also a fellow of the Russian Research Center of the Harvard University for 3 years from 1992.
Robson had conducted research on the Solovetskii Islands as a microcosm of Russian history, publishing the book Solovki: The Story of Russia Told Through Its Most Remarkable Islands.
Currently, Robson is a contributor of articles and reviews to periodicals in the United States and abroad, including the Slavic Review.
