Served Nobunaga Oda, Hideyoshi Toyotomi and Ieyasu Tokugawa. In 1593, at the time of Hideyoshi's campaign in Korea, he was a military inspector. The same year, at the order of Ieyasu, he sailed from Shimoda, Izu Province (Shizuoka Prefecture), on an exploration southward, discovered the Bonins and planted two stakes declaring the group as Japanese territory.
