He was educated at the Bongo Higher Primary School. His postgraduate studies take place at the Collège de Bangor in Chad, where he graduated in 1947.
At 22 he became Administrative Assistant at Maroua, in the Northern Province. Ten years later he had already caught Ahidjo’s attention, who brought Daoudou in as his Principal Secretary when he became Prime Minister in 1958.
Having left the Prime Minister’s Office to stand as a candidate, he became deputy for Adamoua (Northern Province) in the National Assembly in 1960 and Minister of the Armed Forces one year later. In 1966, following the dismissal and subsequent imprisonment of Victor Kanga, Daoudou replaced him as Minister of Information. In the June 1970 ministerial reshuffle he was confirmed as Minister of State in Charge of the Armed Forces, the no. 4 job in the Cameroon government, after President Ahidjo, Tandcng Muna and Paul Biya. He was also, for a time, chairman of the Cameroon Bauxite Study Company (SEBACAM).
