Beardsley, Samuel Arthur was born on December 1, 1856 in Utica, New York, United States. Son of Arthur Moore and Louise Howland (Adams) Beardsley.


Educated Williston Seminary. Hamilton College Law School, Clinton, New York, 1879.


Practiced at Utica, New York, corporation business, 1879-1897, except when chairman State Board R.R. Commissioners, 1892-1896. Opened office, New York, 1898. Now member Beardsley & Taylor.

Incorporated New York Gas & Elec. Light, Heat & Power Company, now the New York Edison Company, which took over all electric light companies of New York City. Attorney for New York Edison Company, Consolidated Subway Company and other electrical companies Director Consolidated Telegraph & Elec.

Subway Company Special city judge and city judge, Utica, 1886-1892. Chairman State Board Commissioners, 1892-1896. Chairman Democratic Company Committee, Oneida County, 1886-1889.

Member and secretary Democratic State Committee, 1889-1892. Delegate Democratic National Convs., 1904, 1908, 1912, and all state convs., 1891-1912. Head Democratic orgns. in city of Utica, 1891-1913.
