He was the Lieutenant General of the Left Guard and later Lord of Mutsu. While at the Court, he quarrelled with Yukinari Fujiwara and struck down Yukinari's headgear. Emperor Ichi jo was offended by this misconduct and ordered him to go to Mutsu and see spots of poetical associations. This meant his demotion to Lord of Mutsu.
