Sanesada no Fujiwara was born in 1139. His other family name was Tokudaiji. He was the son of Kin-yoshi.

He was Minister of the Left. He became a Buddhist priest with the name of Nyoen in 1191. He was accustomed to holding poetry parties in his residence, inviting poets to those functions and discussing with them the art of poetry. His anthology is titled Rinkashu.
