Engel obtained a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute (1973) and an MFA from the University of Colorado in Boulder (1978).
Career
He has been teaching photography at Arapahoe Community College in Littleton, Colorado, since 1979. Previously he was a photography instructor at the Community College of Denver (1979) and at the University of Colorado (1976-77), where he also worked as the director of their Fine Arts Center (1977-78).
