Seigai Kokubu was patronized by Count Taneomi Soejima and was ranked with Kainan Mori in literary circles of his days. His style was based on that of ancient Chinese poets of the Tang Dynasty, and was considered a leader among young poets. He was admitted to the Academy (1937) and was for awhile professor at Daito Bunka Gakuin College.
