Sergey Ivanovich was the Chairman of the Voronezh Regional Branch of the All-Union Society of Geneticist and Breeders named after N.I. Vavilov (from 1966). He was one of the organizers of the Central Research Institute of Forest Genetics and Breeding, where in 1971-1973 he became the head of the Department of Genetics, Cytology and Embryology.
