Shalom Bar-Asher attended the Hebrew University where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science & History, Doctor of Philosophy writing on "The Jewish Community of Morocco in the 18th Century" and Master of Arts in Jewish History & Hebrew Language.
Shalom Bar-Asher has taught at universities in Israel, the United States, and France. During 1973-1983 he worked as a Counsel of students, Centre of Sephardim and Oriental Communities Study in Jerusalem, and during 1983-1984 as a Researcher & Teacher, Jewish Theological Seminary in New York, United States.
Among his articles are "The Jews of North Africa and the Land of Israel in the 18th-19th Centuries: The Reversal in Attitude toward Aliyah (Immigration) to the Land of Israel" (1986), and "The Hatred of Jews through the Ages: Anti-Semitism and Social-Economic Standing; The Jews of Morocco, 1672-1922" (1988).
