After graduating from Tokyo University (1901) proceeded to Europe for further studies.
Shigenao Konishi was appointed professor at Hiroshima Higher Commercial School, and then supervisor at the Ministry of Education. Later was professor at 7th Higher School, Kagoshima, which Shigenao left to join Kyoto University (1913) to eventually become its president (1933).
In between he visited China (1915) and Europe again (1921). Late in life was president of Koa Technical College. He was a great advocate of building character as a prerequisite for any education. Works include "School Education" and "Essentials of Education."
