Shigenobu Tsurumine

Background

Shigenobu Tsurumine (commonly called Hikoichiro) was born on August 23, 1786 in Japan. He was the son of a Shinto priest of Yasaka Shrine (Oita Prefecture).

Career

After moving to Tokyo in 1804, Shigenobu Tsurumine won the favor of Nariaki Tokugawa, Lord of Mito. He is the author several works on ancient times, including Kogi Shindoiko (Study of Ancient Times), Rangaku Keisho (Short Cut to Dutch Language).
