Shintaro Ohashi was elected to the House of Representatives once and later was appointed a member of the House of Peers. He was a director of the Dai-Nippon Beer and other companies. He established the Ohashi Library in Tokyo.
Under his management, the publishing firm at one time published more than 20 magazines including the influential Taiyo (The Sun). It also published cheap editions of Japanese classics.
