Shoan Tsujimoto

Background

Shoan Tsujimoto (Original personal name: Sansho) was born in 1777 in Japan. He was born to a family who served the Lord of Hayashida. He lost both parents when still a child and lived under adverse conditions.

Education

Shoan Tsujimoto studied under Rankei Taki and taught pupils at his home in Shitaya, Edo (now Tokyo).

Career

Shoan Tsujimoto was appointed teacher at Igakukan (medical school) (1837) and was appointed physician to the Shogunate (1847), with the title of Hogen, which was elevated to the rank of Hoin (1854).
