Graduated from Tokyo University (1934).
Career
Served successively as professor of Saga Higher School and assistant professor of Hokkaido University. Versed in Japanese literature of the latter part of the middle ages, particularly in the history of haiku poetry. He was professor of Kyushu University.
Edited "Collection of Haiku Poems of Itami School," Mukai-Kyorai, Shinchu (A New Commentary of Sarumino), and ShincMi Oku-no Hosomichi and also wrote many treatises.
