Shuhei Ishiyama

Background

Nobukichi Ishizaka was born in Shizuoka Prefecture as a son of the Kobayashi, and was adopted by Ippachi Ishiyama.

Education

Shuhei Ishiyama graduated from the philosophy course of Kyoto University (1930).

Career

Shuhei Ishiyama became Chief of Compilation Section, the Ministry of Education (1945), and was noted for his effort in supervising the publications of text books under the American occupation. Later he was appointed Professor of Tokyo University of Science and Literature and chief of Pedagogics Department, Tokyo University of Education (1949). Toured the United States (1951). His outstanding works include "Theory of Democratic Education," "Old and Medieval History of Western Education," and "Theory of Modern Education,"etc.
