Sukeichi Shinohara was a Japanese educator and Doctor of Literature. Specialized in study of German critical philosophy and concentrated his efforts to complete "Critical Pedagogy" as his lifetime work. Was known as author of "Problems of Critical Pedagogy" and "The Essence o f Education and Pedagogy" for which he received a doctorate in literature.

Background

Sukeichi Shinohara was born in 1876, Ehime Prefecture, Japan.

Education

Graduated from Tokyo Higher Normal School (1905), and from the Philosophy Department of Kyoto University (1916).

Career

Served as professor of the Tokyo Higher Normal School and Tohoku University, appointed professor of Tokyo Bunrika University (1930) and education inspector of the Ministry of Education (1932). Retired in 1941.

Achievements

  • Published a systematic theory called the "Shinohara's Pedagogy" establishing himself as a leader in Japan's educational field.
