Background

Marcosson, Sol was born on June 10, 1869 in Louisville, Kentucky, United States. Son of Louis and Helene (Newmark) Marcosson.

Education

Educational public schools, Louisville. Began mus. studies under Henry Burck, Louisville. Student Royal Hochschule, Berlin, Germany, 1887-1892.

Pupil of Heinrich de Ahna and Joachim.

Career

First violinist with Mendelssohn Quintette Club, Boston, 1892-1893, New York Philharmonic Club, 1893-1894. Concert master, Cleveland Symphony Orchestra, 1895-1896, later Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Director violin department, Chautauqua (New York) Institution and of Lake Erie College for Women.
