Steve attended the University of Tampa on a writing scholarship before quitting to write his first novel "Ariel" when he was nineteen.
Steve moved from Florida to Los Angeles Soon after "Ariel" was published, and he continued to write fiction and screenplays as well as teach writing courses, seminars, and workshops. In addition to his novels, he has published stories in literary, science fiction, fantasy, and horror anthologies and magazines, as well as publishing essays and comic books. He has written Ren and Stimpy comics for Marvel and wrote the (uncredited) second draft of Toy Story 2. Boyett has taught fiction at UCLA Extension, Santa Monica Community College, and various workshops, including the annual La Jolla Writers Workshop. He posts and lectures frequently about New Media and the changing role of the writer in the digital age. Boyett is also an electronic dance music DJ known for his Podrunner podcast of dance music. As a DJ, Boyett has played clubs and events in many North American cities, as well as the annual Burning Man festival.
Boyett earned his black belt in Tae Kwon Do at 16, and also practiced Aikido for several years. He has been a martial arts instructor, professional paper marbler, advertising copywriter, proofreader, typesetter, writing teacher, and website designer and editor. His music podcast Podrunner won awards on iTunes four years in a row (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009), and has been a Top 100 Podcast since its debut.
