Sueji Umehara was born on August 13, 1893 in Osaka, Japan.
Sueji Umehara finished the Middle School Course of Doshisha University (1913). He studied abroad as research student of Education Ministry (1925-1929).
Upon returning was appointed lecturer at Kyoto University (1929). Sueji Umehara was promoted to assistant professor (1933), professor (since 1939). Among his works are "Outline of East Asian Archaeology," "Ancient Tombs and Coffins of Japan" and "Ancient Tombs of Korea."
