He engaged in compilation of historical materials as official historiographer of Tokyo University (from 1922), later as director of Bureau of Compilation of Historical Materials led the task of compilation of such data covering the prewar to postwar period of the Pacific War (from 1938 to 1951).
He assumed additional post as professor of Tokyo University (1950), following year retired from official posts and thereafter assumed his present post.
Works include "The Cultural History of Japan: The Kamakura Period" and "Study of the·Kamakura Period."
