In 1963, Svetlana Varguzova entered the vocal department of the Gnesins Musical College, subsequently transferred to the Musical Comedy Department (the course led by L.D. Mikhailov). After graduation she was accepted into the troupe of the Moscow Operetta Theatre in 1967. She made her debut as Sveta Chernova at the premiere of A. Dolukhanyan's "Beauty Contest".
In the 1970s, the creative tandem of Svetlana Varguzova and Yuri Vedeneev was formed on the stage of the Moscow Operetta, which in many ways determined the face of this theatre in the next three decades.
