Graduated from Voronezh theatre courses (1923).
In 1919 he used to be an acrobat and clown in Voronezh circus. From 1920 to 1922 worked in Voronezh studio theatre where he played Antonio in Rudolf Lothar’s play “The fool on the Throne”. From 1923 to 1927 he was an actor in Voronezh drama theatre where he predominantly played character roles. Since 1930 he played in Moscow operetta theatre (his debut was Malon in Herbert Stothart and Rudolf Friml’s operetta “Rose Marie”). He was the first to play Bogdan Susik (Yuriy Milyutin’s “Trembita”), Nakonechikov (Isaak Dunaevskiy’s “Belaya Akatsiya”), Barabyshkin (Dmitriy Shostakovich’s “Moskva, Cheryomushki”).|
Other roles include Kutaisov (Nikolai Strel’nikov’s “Kholopka”), Boni, Fraskati, Zunan (Imre Kalman’s “Sylva”, “The violet of Montmartre”, “Marica”), Bobrikov (Isaak Dunaevskiy’s “Zolotaya dolina”). He also used to be a cartoon voice actor.
