Mr. Far-san T. Sung studied at Anglo-Chinese School, Tsinghua in 1896-1900. In August 1900 he went to America and studied Science at Ohio Wesleyan University in 1900-1905 and graduated with the degree of B. Sc, at the University of Chicago in 1905-1907, graduating with the degree of B. Sc.
Mr. Sung received M. S. degree from the Ohio Wesleyan in 1906. In August 1907 he returned to China. He passed the Imperial Examination for returned students and obtained the degree of Chu-Jen.
Mr. Sung was a teacher in the Fukien Provincial College in 1907; Professor of Chemistry at Peking Government University in 1908-1912; Technical Expert of the Ministry of Finance in 1913; Co-Director of the Assaying Office, Ministry of Finance in 1912-1913; Director of Soochow Mine in 1913; Co-Director of the Bureau of Printing and Engraving in 1914; Inspector General of Mints, Ministry of Finance in 1914-1916; Director of Nanking Mint in 1917; Advisor to Tuchun of Kiangsu in 1915-1916; private English secretary to the late President Feng Kuo-chang in 1917-1918; political advisor to the President’s Office in 1919.
Mr. Sung promoted quite a number of industrial enterprises from which the Paoting Electric Works was one. In co-operation with Mr. Ling Ping-chang, a leading merchant at Foochow, he founded the Fukien Industrial Company in 1920 and with Mr. Chiang Tien-to, the Sino-Scandinavian Bank in Peking, in the spring of 1921.
Mr. Sung was a Councillor-at-large of the Ministry of Finance in 1920 and again from 1922 to 1924. In April 1923 he was awarded the Second Class Ghiaho Decoration. In May1923 he was appointed a member of the Commission for the Consolidation of Domestic and Foreign Debts. In September 1924 he became manager of the Peking Office of the Sino-Norwegian Bank.
