He was appointed Dainagon (Vice Minister) in 1020. A man of great literary talent, he was among the four most distinguished Nag on (Court secretaries) of his time. Tadanobu was a bitter enemy of Yukinari Fujiwara, the great calligrapher and one of the four distinguished Nagon, who revealed a faux pas which Tadanobu had committeed, during a poetry meeting in the Court.
