Tadatsu Makino graduated from Keio Gijuku (predecessor of Keio University) (1893).
Tadatsu Makino entered politics as a member of Kenkyuhai Party and was nominated to House of Peers (1897) and soon became the most powerful politician of his time. He was one-time Mayor of Nagaoka City, director of Hoden Petroleum Company, Japan Agricultural Association, Nihon Petrol, Nagaoka Railway and Formosa Electric companies and head of Japan Sericultural Society.
