Together with his brother, Motoharu Kikkawa, Takakage Kohayagawa was appointed joint castellan of Takayama Castle, and assisted his father and Terumoto Mori to keep the clan united. After the feud between Mori and Hideyoshi had been settled (1585), he subjugated Chugoku and neighboring areas and as a reward for this was granted a fief of 35,000 koku at Iyo, Ehime Prefecture. The following year Takakage subjugated the Lord of Satsuma and the provinces of Chikuzen, Hizen and Chikugo in Kyushu, all of which were added to his conquests. He was appointed councilor and distinguished himself in the expedition to Korea (1592). Became secretary to Hideyoshi Government (1595). When he retired he lived the life of a recluse at Mihara Castle, Hiroshima Prefecture.
