Takao Nishida worked his way up from pitman until he became operator of Chikuzen and No. 2 Chikuzen Coal Mines which, though run on small scale, produced coal of good quality and furnished him with ample amount of poiitical funds.
He was a State Minister of First Hatoyama Cabinet (1954) and Labor Minister of Second Hatoyama Cabinet (1955).
