Tamenari no Fujiwara was born in 1130. The son of Tametada.

He served Emperor Sutoku (reigned 1123- 1141) and was a chamberlain to the empress dowager. In his later years, he became a priest with the name of Jakunen and retired to Ohama near Kyoto. He is supposed to be the author of two noted historical romances, Okagami and Eigu Monogatari (Histories of the Heian Period).
