During the Hogen Affair, he fought alongside his father and defended ex-Emperor Sutoku’s Shirakawa Palace. In spite of the determined stand put up he was defeated and eventually exiled to Oshima Island, off Izu Peninsula (1156). Undeterred by this reverse, he mustered his troops and soon subdued Izu. Later Shigemitsu Kudo led a flotilla against him, and he is said to have sunk one of the attacking crafts with an arrow, but realize ing it was impossible to hold out any longer he is said to have committed suicide.
Physical Characteristics: Was a man of unusual physical strength and was slightly deformed in as much as that his left hand was longer than the other.
