Tasa no Kibi was born in 470. He was a descendant of Prince Wakatakehiko.
Tasa no Kibi lived during the reign of Emperor Yuryaku (457-479) and was appointed Lord of Mimana (Japanese colony in Korea). The Emperor, it seems, took a fancy to Tasa's wife Wakahime, and when the betrayed husband heard of this he raised an army at Mimana to crush the Emperor. The Emperor, however, died before the army arrived, during which time Prince Hoshikawa, born of Wakahime, also died. Tasa returned to Mimana with his army.
