Tateo Kanda was bоrn in Tokyo, 4th son of English scholar Naibu Kanda.
Tateo Kanda graduated from Literary Department of Kyoto University (1924). He studied at Oxford University (1927-1929), and at Heidelberg University (1929-1930).
Tateo Kanda promoted to Professor of Tokyo University (1953). Resigning the above post in the same year, became Professor of International Christian University. Concurrently was instructor of Tokyo University and Rikkyo University. His translated works include "Studies on Bibliography of the New Testament" by Milligan.
