Tetsutaro Tadokoro

Background

Tadokoro Tetsutaro was born in 1880 in Akita, Japan.

Education

Since 1918 he has studied agricultural chemistry in America, England and France.

Career

Having graduated from the university Tadokoro was appointed assistant professor at his alma mater. After returning home he was appointed professor of Agricultural Department of Tohoku University. After serving as head of Science Department of same university, Tetsutaro went again to Europe in 1915. Then he was transferred to Hokkaido University as head of science department and appointed professor. Thereafter Tadakoro served as president of Hokkaido University until he retired in 1947. Afterwards Tetsutaro was appointed president of Hokkaido University of Arts and Sciences but soon resigned and became emeritus professor of same university.

During that time he published a large number of treatises of such subjects in fields of agriculture, physics and engineering as microbiological protein, vegetable pulp, vitamin В dioxidizing enzyme, dehydrating enzyme, low temperature nutrition, high temperature nutrition, vegetative hormone and saccarose-producing stimulant.

In 1919 Tadokoro received degree of Doctor of Agriculture and later degree of Doctor of Science. Tetsutaro also had many patents. He was regarded as veteran scientist in field of applied chemistry and displayed excellent ability in university administration.
