Allan attended University of Detroit. In 1976 he received a Bachelor of Science degree at Western Michigan University specializing in radio and television production.
Since 1975 Tim acted as a stand-up comedian. Also, since 1984 Tim is considered to be a founder of Boxing Cat Productions. In 1988 he appeared in Showtime Comedy Club All-Stars II. It is important to note that in 1989 Allen acted in “Rodney Dangerfield’s Opening Night at Rodney’s Place”.

In the meantime, Allen continues to run his production house, Boxing Cat Films, and helm his design studio - Tim Allen Designs. Allen is a Republican. He has appeared on Sean Hannity's show and announced support for John Kasich, and later Donald Trump, in the 2016 presidential election.
In 1984 Tim got married with Laura Deibel, his business manager. They have a daughter - Katherine Dick. In 2003 the couple divorced. In 2006 Tim married Jane Hajduk.
