Tokinari Satomi was born in Niigata, Japan. He was the son of Yoshinari, grandson of Yoshishige Nitta.
After Takauji Ashikaga revolted, he and Yoshisada went to Hokuriku District along the Japan Sea and defended Somayama Fort he and Tamotsu Uryii, leading a force of 5,000 soldiers, left Somayama to succor their friendly force besieged at Kanagasaki Castle. En route, they met the 20,000- strong army of Yorisada Imagawa of the Ashikaga Camp at Tsuruga. Overpowered by Imagawa's forces, both Tokinari and Tamotsu were killed in battle.
