Tomoji Tani was born in 1894 in Toyama, Japan.
He graduated from Medical Department of Tokyo University in 1920.
After his graduation from Tokyo University in 1920 and the same year he became subassistant at his alma mater. He went to Europe and America as overseas research student of Education Ministry (1923).
He was appointed professor of Kanazawa Medical University in 1939 and thereafter its dean. He held additional post of director of Hokuriku Kessei Seizosho (Hokuriku Blood Sera Manufactory).
