Toru Terada was born in 1915 in Yokohama, Aomori, Japan.
He graduated from French Literature Section of Tokyo University (1937).
Toru Terada became consultant to the Investigation Department of Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1938), professor of the Preparatory Department of Chuo University (1946) and instructor of First Higher School (1947). Then he became assistant professor of Tokyo University. He wrote "Study of Human Comedy of Balzac," "The Spirit of Baroque Art" and "Study of Modern Japanese Writers." Based on study of Balzac, he wrote a number of criticism on literature and Japanese literature.
